Between the coast and the moor sit wooded river valleys — known locally as combes — where the Fowey, Fal and Camel cut through sheltered, tree-lined corridors. Dog-friendly beaches are plentiful but many enforce seasonal restrictions from May to September. Coastal paths often feature stiles, kissing gates and the occasional tide-dependent crossing that can catch out visitors unfamiliar with the route.
